Getting to the museum

Car

From the A14, eastbound: Cross the Orwell Bridge.  Join the A12(N) at the second junction after the bridge.  Turn left at the next roundabout, towards Foxhall and Ipswich.  Follow this road into Ipswich, crossing straight over one roundabout.  After approx. 2 miles, at the start of a steep hill, turn right onto Woodville Road.  The museum entrance and car park is towards the end of this road, on the right.

From the A12, south of Ipswich: The A12(S) ends at a junction with the A14.  Turn right here, to join the A14 eastbound, towards Felixstowe.  Then follow the directions above.

From the A12, north of Ipswich and Woodbridge: Follow the A12 straight over six roundabouts past Woodbridge and Martlesham (the fourth is controlled by traffic lights).  Turn right at the seventh, towards Foxhall and Ipswich, and then follow the directions above.

Public Transport

From Ipswich mainline station, take a route 15 bus to Alexandra Park.  From Tower Ramparts bus station, use route 5. Check with Ipswich Buses for more information.

Derby Road railway station, on the Ipswich-Felixstowe branch, is within walking distance of the museum, along Foxhall Road.

Group visits

The shelter is available for group visits and guided tours outside of public opening times, including evenings.  Groups need to be of at least ten people, and the maximum that can be accommodated at once is thirty.  School groups are also welcome.  For further information, please contact us.

Access

The shelter is accessed by a steep flight of steps.  It was not designed with wheelchair access in mind, but once inside, a wheelchair can be used.  Please contact the museum in advance to discuss any special arrangements.
